Gang Tool Lathe

A gang tool lathe is a CNC turning machine where all cutting tools are mounted side-by-side in a fixed row on a single extended cross-slide table. Instead of indexing or rotating a turret to switch tools, the machine simply shifts the table along the X and Z axes to bring the next tool into contact with the workpiece. This design eliminates mechanical tool rotation, resulting in exceptionally fast cycle times

Key Advantages

  • Ultra-Fast Tool Changes: Swapping tools requires no mechanical indexing time. The machine moves directly from one tool to the next at rapid traverse speeds, often saving several seconds per part.
  • Fewer Moving Parts: Because there is no indexing mechanism, gang tool tables have less mechanical complexity. This reduces maintenance requirements and lowers the initial machine cost.
  • High Rigidity: Tools are bolted directly to a solid, heavy-duty table casting. This fixed setup provides high rigidity and minimizes vibration, which helps maintain tight tolerances over long production runs.
