Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL)

A Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL)—often called a Vertical Turning Center (VTC)—is a heavy-duty CNC machine tool that flips the traditional horizontal lathe design by orientation. The workpiece sits flat on a rotating table (chuck) like a carousel, while the cutting tools move vertically and horizontally above it.

  • No Structural Sag: Gravity works with the machine, pulling massive workpieces down naturally into the rotating table.
  • Easier Part Setup: Heavy, irregular parts can be easily lowered onto the table with an overhead crane and clamped safely without fighting gravity.
  • Higher Clamping Security: The sheer weight of the raw material helps stabilize it during high-pressure cutting passes.
